Promoting Integral Yoga

The spiritual lineage of Ananda Kutir Ashrama begins with the 20th Century Saint H.H. Sri Swami Sivananda Maharaj, who significantly contributed to the world-wide dissemination of Yoga by teaching Integral Yoga.

One of his foremost disciples, Sri Swami Venkatesananda, regularly visited South Africa and it was through his inspiration and guidance that Mother Yogeshwari began teaching Integral Yoga in 1967. In 1982 Sri Yogeshwari together with Swami Parvathiananda and a group of inspired friends formally established Ananda Kutir Ashrama.

Yoga is the most ancient and complete system of personal development. It comprises the accumulated wisdom of all mankind.

Integral Yoga enables one to lead a balanced, harmonious lifestyle which is conducive to peace of mind. Sri Swami Sivananda’s Integral Yoga consists of a unique, simple, practical and modern approach incorporating all the aspects of these traditional Yoga practices below:

Hatha Yoga
Asanas (physical postures with awareness), Pranayama (breath control) and Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation).

Hatha Yoga classes are held daily (except Sundays and public holidays).                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           *  Private Remedial Yoga Instruction – by appointment.

Raja Yoga
The Yoga of Meditation and Mental and Spiritual development.

Meditation classes are held weekly at the Ashrama, and courses can be arranged on request.

Bhakti Yoga
The Yoga of Love for God.

Satsangs are held at the Ashrama on Thursdays (19h30 – 21h00) and Saturdays (18h00 – 19h30) in the Sivananda Tradition with Kirtans, Bhajans, Reading of Inspirational Texts, Talks, and a short Meditation.

Interfaith Gatherings are also regularly held at the Ashrama.

Karma Yoga
The Yoga of Spiritualising Daily Life.

‘Seva’ (selfless service) is offered at the Ashrama, by making sandwiches 3 times a week.  Please click on Outreach tab for more information about Ananda Kutir Outreach’s Project.

Jnana Yoga
The Yoga of Higher Knowledge and Wisdom.

Discourses and study groups on Yoga philosophy and Vedanta are held weekly at the Ashrama.

Integral Yoga Courses, Workshops and Retreats
Ananda Kutir Ashrama offers various courses, workshops and Retreats, in which the deeper aspects of Yoga are taught to sincere Yoga aspirants.  Should you wish to be on our mailing list, contact us.
